As the UK’s leading supplier to the hard-fought Time Attack series and numerous race and rally championships, Forge’s time-served engineers have learned one or two tricks along the way about reducing coolant and charge temperatures in the heat of competition. An object lesson of this expertise in action is the company’s latest gargantuan intercooler for the Mk1 Audi TT.
Specifically designed for large turbo conversions, this hugely oversized part boasts a staggering 70mm thick core measuring 600 x 300 mm, which allows it to lower charge temperatures from extremely high-output applications. Despite this, it is still possible to fit this behind an OEM front bumper, with minor modifications, to maintain the car’s looks and aerodynamic efficiency.
Being a competition part, this intercooler requires the additional purchase of hoses to connect to each individual application, which can be tailored to each turbo conversion. No hoses or alloy bends are included, but these can easily be selected from the extensive range kept in Forge’s £250,000 stock of connecting parts. Alternatively, mandrel-bent hard pipe or even ‘lobster claw’ designs can be custom-fabricated to the customer’s wishes. Basically, if it can be described, rendered in SolidWorks, or even sketched on a beermat, Forge’s fabricators can realise it!
